I don’t know about you, but I can only hope to be as good of a mother as my mom is. To this day, she never stops giving to our family. She is strong, kind, and always puts a smile on my face. It is true that a mother is child’s first best friend.
For the new year, I am going to work on being more like my mom. She is so patient, which is something I really need to work on. Others needs are always put before hers, too. I am going to make 2017 all about learning her motherly ways. If my son gets raised the way she brought me up, I know he will turn out to be an amazing young man.
I am writing this post the day I found out about Debbie Reynolds. For those of you who don’t know her, she was Carrie Fisher’s (Princess Leia) mom. I find it very odd, but at the same time I completely understand how she could have passed the day after her own daughter. The love of a mother is so strong that I believe you can die from a broken heart. If her health wasn’t great, the loss of her daughter allowed her to let go and be with her. It’s scary, but I get it. I know the feeling of loving your own child so much that it’s hard to imagine life without them. The same is true of children loving their moms. So in honor of all the wonderful moms out there…thank you. Thank you for all your sacrifices and for loving us unconditionally no matter what. Your kindness often goes unnoticed.
I will leave you with some of my favorite quotes about moms. Think about them, as you end your 2016 and begin a whole new chapter in 2017.
“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.” —Abraham Lincoln
“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ―Washington Irving
“Mothers and their children are in a category all their own. There’s no bond so strong in the entire world. No love so instantaneous and forgiving.” —Gail Tsukiyama
“Motherhood is a choice you make everyday, to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you’re not sure what the right thing is…and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong.”―Donna Ball
